Saltwater fish for reef aquariums

Choose saltwater fish around the aquarium you can provide throughout their life. Compare adult size, swimming space, shelter, feeding requirements, and behaviour before selecting a colour or pattern. A small juvenile can have very different long-term needs from a fish that remains small as an adult.

Use the fish groups in this collection to narrow your search, then read the individual listing. Tangs, gobies, wrasses, and clownfish do not share one set of housing requirements. Reef compatibility also needs to account for the corals, shrimp, and other animals already in your system.

Before introducing livestock, confirm that the aquarium is established and its water conditions suit the species. Add fish gradually and plan how to observe feeding and behaviour after arrival.
