Polleni Grouper

The Polleni Grouper (Cephalopholis polleni), also called the Harlequin Hind, has fine blue striping over greenish to yellow colouring. It can grow beyond 40 cm, making adult swimming space and a substantial resting cave central to aquarium planning.

Prepare a large established system with secure caves and crevices. Strong filtration is needed for the waste from marine meaty meals, and the layout should allow the fish to retreat without being cornered. Other groupers can create territorial problems.

Provide varied suitable carnivore foods and confirm that the available fish is eating reliably. Fish and crustaceans that fit into its mouth can be swallowed, even when it seems calm beside larger companions. A quiet resting posture is normal predatory behaviour, not evidence that small tankmates are safe.
