Red Finger Gorgonian is a nonphotosynthetic filter-feeding coral for an experienced aquarist with a dedicated feeding plan. Its branching form can be attractive in a shaded reef area, but light cannot replace the suspended food required by its polyps.

Provide moderate to strong water movement that carries fine planktonic food around the branches and removes settled waste. Secure the base and leave the colony clear of nearby corals, avoiding stagnant pockets where algae or detritus can cover living tissue. Maintain stable salinity, temperature and water quality.

Frequent small feedings are central to its care, together with filtration and maintenance capable of handling the resulting food load. Judge success by sustained polyp activity and intact tissue over time. This gorgonian is unsuitable for a system that depends on lighting alone to nourish its corals.
