Purple Tipped Hammer Coral

Purple Tipped Hammer Coral has fleshy tentacles ending in the flattened shapes characteristic of hammer corals. Give it room around the expanded tissue and keep the supporting skeleton stable so movement in the water does not bring it into contact with rock.

Begin with moderate light and variable circulation that moves around the coral. Avoid forceful flow that compresses the flesh against its skeleton, and acclimate gradually when transferring it between lighting systems. A consistent placement makes it easier to judge normal extension.

Photosynthesis is its main nutritional support. Small marine foods can be tried, but stop persistent feeding attempts if the coral rejects them. Allow clearance for stinging tentacles, especially near unrelated corals, and protect it from nearby torches. Reassess the space as the colony expands beyond its original outline.
