Purple Frilly Gorgonian

Purple Frilly Gorgonian is a photosynthetic sea plume whose fine branches create a feather-like outline when the polyps open. Leave space around that outline so the colony can move with the water and remain clear of neighbouring coral tissue.

Strong, irregular circulation and good reef lighting suit this Caribbean-type gorgonian. Mount the base securely where the branches extend into open water rather than a still recess. Give it time to acclimate to a brighter fixture and prevent adjacent corals from shading it as they grow.

Its symbiotic algae provide much of its energy, while supplementary fine suspended foods may support growth. Keep the branch surfaces clear of accumulating debris and watch for sustained polyp extension. Inspect its attachment and nearby coral reach during maintenance so mechanical rubbing or stinging does not damage the living outer tissue.
