Purple Candleabra Gorgonian

Purple Candelabra Gorgonian is a photosynthetic branching sea rod for an open area of the reef. Its upright form needs room above and beside the attachment point, allowing water to move between the branches without pushing them against rock or neighbouring colonies.

Moderate to bright reef lighting and substantial, indirect circulation suit this type after gradual acclimation. Secure the base so the colony remains steady, while keeping living branch tissue exposed to the water. Check that growing corals nearby do not progressively shade it.

Photosynthesis supplies much of its energy, and fine suspended foods may provide supplementary nutrition. Maintain clear branch surfaces and watch for persistent closure or areas of lost tissue. Keep it away from the reach of aggressive stony corals and choose a position where routine cleaning will not repeatedly catch its branches.
