Purple Bottle Brush Gorgonian

Purple Bottle Brush Gorgonian is a photosynthetic sea rod whose small side branches and extended polyps create a brush-like outline. Allow space around the entire colony so the fine branches stay clear of rock and neighbouring coral tissue.

Moderate to strong reef lighting and circulating water suit this type. Introduce it to a brighter position gradually and secure the base where water can pass through the branch structure. Avoid still pockets that let debris collect over the polyps.

Its symbiotic algae support much of its nutrition; small suspended planktonic foods can be an optional supplement. Good light access and clean branch surfaces remain important as nearby colonies grow. Monitor extension and tissue coverage during routine maintenance, and protect the gorgonian from stinging sweepers or repeated physical contact that could damage its outer tissue.
