Purple Blade Gorgonian

Purple Blade Gorgonian is a photosynthetic Pterogorgia-type sea whip with flattened or angular branches. It can add an upright form to a reef, provided its branches have room to move without rubbing against the surrounding aquascape.

Good reef lighting and substantial circulation are important for this type. Acclimate to the light gradually and choose an open position where water moves along the branches, keeping their surfaces clear of sediment and nuisance growth. Secure the base without burying living tissue against the rock.

Photosynthesis supports much of its nutrition; maintaining light access and clean, moving water remains essential as other corals grow around it. Inspect for persistent closure or exposed branch sections and check local flow before relocating the colony. Keep it beyond the reach of neighbouring stony-coral sweepers.
