Orange Spiny Gorgonian

Orange Spiny Gorgonian is a photosynthetic sea-rod type with a textured branching surface. It needs an open position where the polyps can extend into moving water, with clearance from nearby coral colonies and abrasive parts of the aquascape.

Moderate to stronger reef lighting and good surrounding circulation are appropriate starting conditions after acclimation. Secure the base and keep flow moving through the branches rather than leaving one side in a stagnant pocket. Prevent nuisance growth or settled food from covering the living surface.

Photosynthesis provides substantial nutrition, and very small suspended marine foods may be offered as a supplement. Inspect the tissue and polyp extension regularly and preserve its light access as the reef fills in. Keep neighbouring stinging corals out of reach and avoid placing the branches where routine maintenance will knock or scrape them.
