Mappa Puffer

The mappa puffer, Arothron mappa, is also called the map or scribbled puffer because of its intricate markings. It becomes a large, broad-bodied fish, making the permanent aquarium's floor area and turning room an early purchase consideration. Adults can approach 63 cm (25 inches), making this a fish for a very large, purposefully planned system.

Use substantial, secure rock shelters with open routes between them. Offer varied marine meaty foods, including suitable hard-shelled items that help wear its continuously growing teeth. Robust filtration and removal of uneaten food are important with such a messy, powerful feeder.

Corals and ornamental invertebrates are at risk of biting or consumption. Evaluate fish companions individually and avoid animals that harass or nip the puffer. Move it calmly in an appropriate container when necessary; provoking inflation is stressful and has no place in routine viewing or handling.
