Choosing Wrasse
Wrasses range from small reef fish to large predators. Compare adult size, diet, and temperament for the exact species you are considering. A colourful juvenile, a flasher wrasse, and a large Coris wrasse can require very different aquariums as they grow.
Check how the species shelters at night or when disturbed. Some bury in sand, while others use rockwork, and many are capable jumpers that need a secure cover. Review the substrate, open swimming space, and gaps around equipment before choosing your fish.
Feeding and invertebrate compatibility also vary. Some wrasses take appropriately sized prepared foods readily; others need an established system with small live prey. Shrimp, crabs, worms, or other reef inhabitants may be at risk with particular species. Ask about the available fish’s current diet and share your existing livestock list before ordering.
