Red Coris Wrasse

The Red Coris Wrasse changes dramatically as it matures: the orange-and-white juvenile pattern gives way to a much more elaborate adult appearance. It also becomes a stronger, more disruptive forager, so suitability should be judged for the adult fish.

A large aquarium with soft sand is important because this wrasse buries itself to rest or escape disturbance. Coarse, sharp substrate is unsuitable for that behaviour. Position rockwork securely and allow generous swimming space.

Offer varied meaty marine foods and suitable prepared diets. Shrimp, snails and other invertebrates are at risk, particularly as the wrasse grows. Early coexistence with small ornamental animals should not be treated as evidence of permanent compatibility.
