Yellowtail Chromis

The Yellowtail Chromis, Chromis xanthura, is also called the Paletail Chromis. Its body can show blue or darker iridescent tones beside a pale yellow tail. Adults can reach approximately 15 cm, making this a more substantial fish than the smallest juvenile chromis.

Use an established aquarium with room to swim at different levels and shelter around the rockwork. The species may become territorial toward its own kind or similarly sized fish, so monitor individuals within a group rather than assuming continuous peaceful schooling.

Feed varied marine foods in several portions through the day, combining suitable meaty items with herbivore or omnivore preparations. Ensure less assertive fish can reach food and return to shelter. Stable water quality and a manageable stocking level support the activity that makes chromis appealing in a reef display.
