Yellow Watchman Goby

The Yellow Watchman Goby (Cryptocentrus cinctus) is a burrow-associated reef fish known for its watchful posture and relationship with compatible pistol shrimp. The goby acts as a lookout while the shrimp maintains their shared shelter; the two can retreat together when disturbed.

Feed small meaty aquarium foods that reach the fish near its retreat. Frozen mysis, brine shrimp, and suitable pellets are feeding options for this species. Observe the individual eating rather than assuming it will live on whatever other fish leave behind.

Watchman gobies are usually peaceful with unrelated fish but can fight with their own kind. If you want a shrimp partnership or a goby pair, ask us to confirm the animals involved. Yellow, grey, and bluish colour forms occur, so colour alone is not a reliable way to select a male and female.
