Yellow Tang

The Yellow Tang, Zebrasoma flavescens, is a bright yellow surgeonfish that can reach about 20 cm in length. Its deep body and active grazing make a spacious adult aquarium more important than the small size of a juvenile.

Arrange swimming routes around rockwork with grazing surfaces and sheltered areas. Tang-to-tang aggression is a central compatibility concern, particularly when introducing a newcomer to an established fish's territory. A single tang can be the more manageable choice when space or stocking options are limited.

Keep algae prominent in its diet through marine seaweed and suitable herbivore preparations. Meaty community foods can add variety but should not dominate its meals. Verify access to food away from territorial rivals and remember that the sharp spine at the tail requires care during handling.
