Yellow Goatfish

The Yellow Goatfish, Parupeneus cyclostomus, uses the sensory barbels beneath its chin while searching for food. Yellow specimens are striking, but colour should be considered alongside an adult length that can approach 50 cm.

Provide substantial swimming room and accessible sandy areas in a spacious marine aquarium. As it grows, its feeding becomes a serious compatibility concern: fish and crustaceans may be eaten. Companions need to be suitable for the adult goatfish, not simply safe beside a small juvenile.

This active fish has a demanding appetite. Offer varied marine meaty foods in several meals throughout the day, ensuring portions reach the goatfish without leaving persistent waste. Substrate searching does not remove the need for deliberate feeding, strong filtration and close attention to body condition.
