Yellow Edged Moray Eel

The Yellow Edged Moray Eel, Gymnothorax flavimarginatus, is a very large reef predator with a yellow-green margin along the rear fins. Recorded adults can reach 2.4 metres, a commitment far beyond a typical community aquarium.

Plan a specialist enclosure with enough room for the full adult, extensive secure shelter and filtration designed for substantial meaty meals. Rockwork must withstand a powerful eel moving through it, and all openings need secure escape protection. Predation is a central concern for fish, crustaceans and other animals sharing the enclosure.

Offer varied suitable marine seafood with a long feeding tool and keep hands clear of the eel and its occupied caves. Confirm the feeding plan before purchase. Its ability to remain concealed for long periods should never be confused with modest space needs or an absence of risk to tankmates.
