Yellow Breast Twist Wrasse

The Yellow Breast Twist Wrasse, Anampses twistii, belongs to the tamarin wrasses. It has a yellow chest and conspicuous fin eyespots, with juveniles using a distinctive head-down posture close to the reef.

This is a demanding fish for a mature aquarium with abundant small natural prey. Provide established live rock, well-oxygenated water and soft sand deep enough for burial when resting or frightened. Secure the lid and avoid companions that prevent it from foraging comfortably.

Prepare for challenging feeding rather than assuming it will immediately accept flakes or frozen food. Supply suitable tiny live prey and offer small marine meaty foods regularly, monitoring body condition closely. It can consume ornamental crustaceans, fanworms and other small invertebrates, so its attractive appearance needs to be weighed against both feeding demands and reef compatibility.
