Tri-Color Pistol Shrimp

Tri-Color Pistol Shrimp offers the behaviour of a snapping shrimp, including the distinctive sound produced by its enlarged claw. Provide protected rock crevices and accessible feeding space. Where the shrimp excavates sand, rockwork must remain stable rather than relying on loose substrate for support.

Offer small marine meaty foods close to its shelter and check that they are collected before other inhabitants take them. A pistol shrimp's snapping claw can subdue small prey, so tiny ornamental crustaceans should be considered at risk. Avoid combining unfamiliar snapping shrimp in a confined area.

A shrimp-goby partnership should be planned for a verified compatible species. Not every pistol shrimp forms one, and the Tri-Color name does not identify a particular partner. Keep the aquarium stable and provide undisturbed cover when the shrimp sheds its shell.
