Tiger Pistol Shrimp

The Tiger Pistol Shrimp, also called a Tiger Snapping Shrimp, is a burrowing marine shrimp with broken stripes across its body. Its enlarged claw can make an audible snap; sound alone does not identify a hidden animal as a mantis shrimp.

Provide sand and rock shelters suitable for digging. Pistol shrimp continually rearrange material around their burrows, so consider that behaviour when placing loose pieces near the bottom of the aquarium. This species can associate with compatible shrimp gobies.

Offer small meaty foods that reach the burrow, including suitable frozen foods or bottom-feeder foods. A goby partnership is something to plan and confirm, not something every fish will form. Very small shrimp may be at risk, so include all existing invertebrates when checking this animal’s compatibility.
