Tiger Nassarius Snail

The Tiger Nassarius Snail is also sold as a Babylon snail. It belongs to the Babylonia group rather than the true Nassarius snails, a distinction that matters when selecting companions for a reef aquarium. Its patterned shell is most often seen when it emerges from the substrate later in the day or after dark.

Provide a sand bed where it can bury and forage. Offer small pieces of marine fish, krill or other meaty frozen foods that reach the bottom. It scavenges animal material and is not a substitute for an algae-grazing snail or regular removal of accumulated waste.

Keep it away from ornamental clams, including Tridacna: Babylon snails can prey on bivalves. Predation on other snails has also been reported, so monitor mollusk companions carefully. A sand-bottom display without prized bivalves is a more appropriate setting than a clam-focused reef.
