Swallowtail Angelfish

Swallowtail angelfish are active Genicanthus that feed in the water column. Give them clear swimming lanes alongside rockwork with shaded retreats, and maintain good circulation through the display. An aquarium packed edge to edge with rock can leave too little usable space for this style of swimming.

Provide several small meals of appropriate marine foods, emphasizing animal foods suited to a plankton-feeding fish and including a varied prepared diet. Observe feeding access for both the angel and quieter midwater companions. Check that a newly introduced fish comes out regularly and maintains its condition.

Species and sex affect appearance and social planning. Confirm both before attempting a pair or group; similarly coloured fish are not automatically compatible. Swallowtail naming covers more than one species, so use the current identification to decide adult accommodation and watch introductions for territorial chasing or exclusion from food.
