Striped Sleeper Goby

The Striped Sleeper Goby, Valenciennea longipinnis, has a pale, elongated body decorated with coloured lines and small dashes. It spends much of its active time close to the substrate, where feeding space matters more than a densely packed rock display.

Leave a broad, accessible sand bed with shelter at its edges. Choose peaceful companions and arrange rockwork so digging cannot undermine unstable pieces. Consider the position of low corals, since a sand-working goby can redistribute material around nearby animals.

Provide a reliable supply of small marine meaty foods that reach the bottom. Natural substrate foraging should supplement an intentional feeding routine rather than replace one. Check that the goby maintains condition even when it appears busy; a sand bed can look productive while offering insufficient prey for long-term nutrition.
