Starry Blenny

The Starry Blenny (Salarias ramosus) has a mottled dark body covered with pale spots. It spends much of its time perched on rocks, moving between surfaces to graze rather than cruising continuously through open water.

Choose an established aquarium with plentiful mature rock surfaces and natural algae growth. Similar-shaped blennies may be challenged, so a second bottom-perching grazer needs a compatibility review. A recently cleaned, sparsely furnished display provides little natural feeding habitat.

Supplement grazing with suitable herbivore preparations and algae-based foods. Check that the fish accepts these additions and maintains body condition. Watching it scrape rock is useful, but the presence of grazing behaviour alone does not establish that the available algae can sustain it.
