Speckled Damsel

The Speckled Damsel (Pomacentrus bankanensis) can be much more colourful as a juvenile than as an adult. Young fish show orange and blue accents, while mature individuals develop a more subdued brown appearance.

Provide rockwork with several hiding places and assess adult temperament when selecting companions. This damselfish can be assertive, so a tiny colourful juvenile should not automatically be treated as a permanently gentle community fish.

Feed a varied omnivore menu that combines algae-based preparations with small marine animal foods. Offering food at more than one location can make it easier to observe whether all residents have access. If keeping more than one damsel, watch territorial behaviour closely and retain an option to separate incompatible individuals.
