Snowflake Moray Eel

The Snowflake Moray, Echidna nebulosa, has a pale body covered with irregular dark markings. Many aquarium specimens approach about 60 cm, making even this relatively manageable moray a substantial animal with a long-term housing commitment.

Anchor rockwork securely and provide enclosed retreats where the eel can hide its body. A tightly fitted, secured lid is essential: snowflake morays can push through openings and leave the aquarium. Allow sufficient filtration for the waste produced by a marine predator.

Feed suitable portions of shrimp, other crustacean flesh and varied marine seafood using a long feeding tool. Never hand-feed. Ornamental shrimp and crabs are natural prey, and small fish are also at risk. Choose larger, non-harassing companions and avoid treating a peaceful resting eel as proof of compatibility.
