Six Bar Angelfish

The Six Bar Angelfish (Pomacanthus sexstriatus) develops bold bands and fine blue spotting as it matures. Its adult appearance is distinctive, but this is a large angelfish whose enclosure must be planned beyond the size of the available juvenile. Recorded adults reach 46 cm in length.

Provide a very large aquarium with substantial live rock and numerous retreats. Corals and clam mantles can be nipped, so a fish-focused display is a more predictable fit than a reef where protecting sessile invertebrates is essential.

Offer varied angelfish preparations, marine algae and small marine meaty foods in several meals. Good feeding access and sustained water quality are central to maintaining a fish of this size. Sex cannot reliably be selected simply from the adult colour pattern.
