Sailfin Tang

The Sailfin Tang has a tall body with striking bands and greatly enlarged dorsal and anal fins. When those fins are extended, the fish occupies much more vertical space than its folded profile suggests. The body can reach about 40 cm in length before considering the spread of those fins.

Plan a large aquarium with generous swimming room and enough height and width for the adult to turn comfortably. Similar tangs can trigger territorial displays. A small juvenile should be selected only when its eventual space requirements already fit the system.

Supply marine algae and seaweed consistently, together with suitable prepared foods. A tang taking a little meaty food during community meals still needs substantial plant material. Place grazing food where the Sailfin can feed without trapping a quieter fish in a confined part of the rockwork.
