Ring Eye Pygmy Goby

The Ring Eye Pygmy Goby, Trimma benjamini, is a tiny reddish reef fish named for the pale outline around its eye. Its small scale makes close observation rewarding, particularly in an aquarium stocked with similarly delicate fish.

Provide rock surfaces for perching and nearby crevices for retreat. Ring Eye gobies may sit in exposed positions but withdraw quickly when disturbed. Avoid companions capable of swallowing them or repeatedly driving them from those perches, and protect openings in the aquarium cover.

Offer very small marine foods, checking particle size rather than simply using the same portion fed to larger fish. Fine frozen foods, appropriately sized prepared diets and suitable live prey provide options during acclimation. Watch for actual feeding and body condition; a pygmy goby's nutritional needs are easy to overlook in a busy display.
