Red Tuxedo Urchin

The Red Tuxedo Urchin is a short-spined marine grazer with a rounded body and contrasting colored areas. It often rests in sheltered rockwork during the day, then explores nearby surfaces for algae when lighting is reduced.

An established supply of grazing is more important than a simple stocking formula. Offer dried marine seaweed if natural algae becomes sparse, and avoid adding several urchins to a feeding area that can support only one. Leave open routes between shelters so it can move without being trapped.

Although its spines are relatively short, they remain sharp and require careful handling. Stable marine water quality supports its grip and overall condition; marked spine loss merits prompt investigation.
