The Red Reef Lobster is a sheltered reef inhabitant that often becomes more visible after dark. Its strong claws and nocturnal activity distinguish it from small ornamental cleaner shrimps, even when it spends much of the day hidden.

Build a secure cave or deep crevice where it can retreat and molt. Feed suitable sinking marine meaty foods near that shelter, checking that the lobster receives its portion. Rockwork should be stable enough to withstand activity around the entrance.

Plan tankmates cautiously. Reef lobsters can threaten small fish and crustaceans, and territorial disputes with other lobsters can be serious. A single animal is the simpler arrangement unless a compatible pair is established. Protect freshly molted individuals from aggressive tankmates while the shell hardens.
