Red Miniata Grouper

The Red Miniata Grouper is a substantial reef predator also sold as the Miniatus Grouper or Coral Hind. Its red body and contrasting spots make it conspicuous, but a young fish's size should not conceal the adult housing commitment. Adults can reach 50 cm in length.

Provide a very large aquarium with robust filtration, open swimming space and secure shelter. Choose companions that are too large to be swallowed and reassess that relationship as the grouper grows. Small fish and ornamental invertebrates are inappropriate partners.

Feed varied marine seafood and suitable carnivore preparations in portions the fish can manage. Targeted feeding allows intake to be observed and uneaten food to be removed. A grouper resting quietly in a cave remains a predator capable of a sudden feeding strike.
