Randall's Anthias

Randall's Anthias, Pseudanthias randalli, displays shades of pink and red, with colour intensity and fin markings changing with sex and maturity. The species spends much of its active time feeding in the water column rather than grazing the rock surface.

Provide open swimming space, established rockwork and sheltered places to withdraw. A secure lid matters because anthias can jump. Groups develop a social hierarchy, so stocking must account for aggression and feeding access rather than treating every collection of anthias as a compatible school.

Plan several small meals throughout the day using suitable plankton-sized frozen and prepared marine foods. Watch each fish eat, particularly after introduction or a change in its companions. This feeding schedule is an ongoing requirement when deciding whether Randall's Anthias suits the aquarium.
