Purple Tang

The Purple Tang combines a deep blue-purple body with a yellow tail and yellow accents on the pectoral fins. It is an active grazing surgeonfish whose strong territorial behaviour is just as important as its colour when planning a display.

Use a large aquarium with open swimming routes, secure hiding places and more than one accessible feeding area. Other tangs, particularly those with a similar body shape, may be challenged. An already established Purple Tang can be especially difficult to introduce new grazing competitors beside.

Marine algae and seaweed should be regular parts of its diet, supported by suitable prepared foods. Do not rely on leftover meaty food or incidental algae growth to meet its needs. Observe feeding access and aggression together when evaluating compatibility.
