Orbic Batfish

The Orbic Batfish has a deep, rounded body and broad fins that give it a very different space requirement from a slender fish of similar length. A small juvenile develops into a substantial animal that needs a very large, deep aquarium. Recorded adults reach 60 cm in length, in addition to the space demanded by their deep bodies.

Leave generous unobstructed swimming room and plan the adult enclosure before buying. This batfish can consume corals, anemones and other attached invertebrates, making a coral display a poor match for its feeding behaviour.

Offer a varied diet with appropriately sized shrimp, scallop and other marine foods, alongside suitable herbivore preparations. Newly introduced fish can be reluctant to feed, so confirm the current feeding response and be prepared to deliver several manageable meals rather than assuming immediate acceptance of dry food.
