Orange Tail Filefish

Orange Tail Filefish need a calm aquarium where feeding can happen without a rush of aggressive competitors. Arrange established rockwork with sheltered routes, places to rest and surfaces to investigate. Leave accessible space around those refuges so a slow-moving fish can find food without remaining exposed.

Offer a varied diet that includes marine meaty foods and an algae-based component. Verify acceptance of the foods you intend to use: some filefish take time to recognize prepared diets. Place small portions where the fish can reach them and check that faster companions are not taking everything.

Corals, clam mantles and other invertebrates can be nipped, so plan this fish’s compatibility carefully. Similar tail colours are used to name different Pervagor species. Confirm the current identification before setting adult space requirements or adding another filefish; neither colour nor a shared common name establishes a compatible pair.
