The Orange Sponge Decorator Crab is sold for the sponge-carrying behavior that helps this type of crab blend into its surroundings. It uses living material as camouflage, so the decoration is part of an active animal's behavior and can change over time.

Provide shaded crevices and a planned diet of appropriate marine meaty foods. These crabs are often most active in dim conditions, and food placed near their retreat is easier to monitor than relying on scattered leftovers.

Consider the display's sponges, tunicates and other attached animals before introducing a decorating crab. Material used for cover may be cut or removed from surrounding livestock. A display devoted to delicate ornamental growth may therefore be a poor match. Orange decoration is not a promise that the crab will retain an identical covering permanently.
