Provide established rockwork and a varied diet with suitable algae-based foods and small marine food particles. A hermit crab still requires dependable nutrition after visible algae becomes sparse. Observe its feeding and avoid assuming that every piece of unwanted growth is palatable.

Leave a selection of appropriately sized empty shells so the crab can change homes as it grows. Shell competition can lead to disputes with other hermits, and occupied snail shells may attract attention. Plan the snail and crab population accordingly, provide retreat space during molts, and maintain steady marine water conditions.
