Ochre Striped Cardinalfish

The Ochre Striped Cardinalfish (Ostorhinchus compressus) has brown stripes along a pale body and blue rings around its eyes. Younger fish may show a yellow tail-base area with a dark spot, while adult markings develop differently.

Provide an established aquarium with caves, overhangs and room to swim slowly between retreats. This cardinalfish is naturally more active after dark, so shade and peaceful companions help accommodate its daily rhythm without forcing constant exposure.

Offer a varied selection of small marine meaty foods and make sure it can feed at a comfortable time and location. Assess group housing against available shelter and the behaviour of individual fish. Its methodical swimming is a reason to avoid competition from relentless, boisterous feeders.
