Niger Trigger

The Niger Trigger, also called the Redtooth Triggerfish, can appear blue, purple or blue-green under different lighting. Mature fish develop conspicuous red teeth and extended tail lobes. The species can reach 40 cm in total length.

Choose a large fish-focused aquarium with caves, strong filtration and ample swimming space. This powerful fish may move pieces of its surroundings, so rockwork needs to be stable. Its behaviour and eventual size deserve consideration beyond the appearance of a small specimen.

Offer varied marine foods, including suitably sized crustacean-based preparations, chopped seafood and algae-containing foods. It naturally feeds heavily on zooplankton in open water. Review small fish and ornamental invertebrates before adding a triggerfish; a colourful, active swimmer is still capable of predation and territorial behaviour.
