Naso Tang

The Naso Tang develops a distinctive facial mask, orange lips and coloured patches beside the tail as it matures. Juvenile colour and body proportions differ from those of an adult, making long-term space requirements particularly important when choosing a small fish. Adults can reach approximately 45 cm, so long swimming routes and substantial turning room are essential.

This is an active surgeonfish for a large aquarium with long swimming routes, substantial shelter and a secure cover. It can challenge other tangs even when it coexists with unrelated fish.

Provide marine algae and seaweed regularly, supplemented with appropriate prepared foods. A Naso Tang should have reliable access to grazing food of its own; occasional bites during another fish's feeding are insufficient planning for this large herbivore.
