Mystery Wrasse

The Mystery Wrasse (Pseudocheilinus ocellatus) has a pink-purple body, fine pale bars and a conspicuous eyespot near the tail. It is naturally associated with darker reef areas and may spend considerable time exploring cover.

Provide shaded crevices and caves within secure rockwork, together with good circulation and oxygenation. Keep the aquarium covered: this wrasse can jump. A discreet fish should still be assessed carefully alongside other wrasses and timid tankmates.

Offer small marine meaty foods and check how the individual feeds after introduction. Ornamental shrimp and small crabs can be eaten, particularly by larger specimens. The fact that a wrasse lives among corals does not make it harmless to every animal in a reef aquarium.
