Multi-barred Goatfish

The Multi-barred Goatfish (Parupeneus multifasciatus), also called the Manybar Goatfish, searches the bottom using sensitive barbels beneath its chin. Its colours can shift quickly, so a temporary pale or darker appearance is not its only normal colour state.

Allow a large swimming area alongside deep sand, rubble and shelter in a mature aquarium. Its digging can disturb bottom-placed corals or clams. Stable rockwork and a secure cover are important parts of the enclosure.

Feed several suitable marine meaty meals through the day and verify the fish's response to offered foods. This is an invertebrate predator, not a general-purpose cleaner: shrimp, worms, small brittle stars and crabs may be eaten. Plan its place in the livestock community around that natural diet.
