Money Cowrie

The Money Cowrie is a small marine snail with a smooth, rounded shell and a narrow opening underneath. It grazes algae from rock and aquarium glass, offering a different appearance and movement pattern from cone-shaped cleanup snails.

An established reef with dependable grazing is more suitable than freshly cleaned rock. If algae becomes scarce, supplement with dried marine seaweed or a suitable vegetable-based food and verify that the cowrie can reach it. Its food supply needs attention even when the aquarium otherwise looks healthy.

Keep aggressive snail-eating animals out of the stocking plan. Check whether an overturned cowrie needs assistance, and maintain stable salinity during introduction and routine care. Avoid copper treatments in its aquarium. The name describes a particular cowrie type; it should not be used to assume that all cowries share the same diet.
