Mixed Color Blastomussa

Mixed Color Blastomussa is a fleshy stony coral whose expanded polyps can resemble a cluster of mushrooms. Despite that soft appearance, its tissue sits over a hard skeleton and needs a secure position away from abrasive rock edges and the reach of aggressive neighbours.

Subdued lighting is a good place to begin. Blastomussa can expand poorly under excessive illumination, so allow gradual acclimation rather than placing it beside high-light SPS corals. Gentle to moderate circulation should keep the colony clean without continually folding the flesh.

Small meaty foods such as appropriately sized mysis portions can supplement photosynthesis. Let individual polyps take their food and avoid leaving excess between them. Inspect the colony for sustained tissue coverage and room to expand; the mixed-colour label does not specify the number or size of its polyps.
