Mermaids Wineglass Macro Algae (Clipping)

Mermaid's Wineglass macroalgae forms slender stalks topped by tiny green cups or umbrellas. Members of the Acetabularia group grow attached to hard surfaces, making them an unusual detail for a marine macroalgae display rather than a loose, tumbling mass of refugium algae.

Give the growth access to light and protect the delicate stalks from crushing or forceful water jets. Its structure is supported by calcium carbonate, so stable marine chemistry matters. Position it where the small caps can be observed without frequently moving or handling the growth.

For a clipping, the attachment and basal tissue deserve particular attention: Acetabularia keeps its nucleus in the base during much of its life cycle. Confirm whether the supplied portion retains that base and its attachment before planning placement or propagation; a detached decorative cap is not equivalent to an intact growing plant.
