Marine Betta ( Comet)

The marine betta, Calloplesiops altivelis, is also known as the comet. Its spotted body and large false eye marking create a striking appearance, particularly as it moves slowly around rock shelters and shaded areas.

Despite being a predator, it is a shy fish that needs a calm environment. Provide roomy caves and offer marine meaty foods close to cover. Observe meals carefully: fast or boisterous fish can take the food before the betta has an opportunity to approach.

Small fish and invertebrates are potential prey, so peaceful temperament alone does not establish compatibility. Select companions too large to swallow that will still respect its quiet behaviour. A thoughtfully stocked aquarium gives this secretive fish more opportunity to emerge without being harassed at every feeding.
