Linear Blenny

The linear blenny, Ecsenius lineatus, has a dark upper body and pale underside. It is a small rock-associated fish that alternates between resting at favourite perches and exploring nearby surfaces for food.

An established aquarium should offer crevices and accessible areas of natural grazing. Supplement with algae-based marine foods and suitable balanced preparations instead of relying on the tank to stay visibly green. Watch the blenny's feeding and body condition as the aquarium's natural growth changes.

Other blennies or similarly shaped fish may be treated as competitors for shelter. Spread suitable perches through the rockwork and monitor territorial encounters. A secure cover is advisable for a fish capable of jumping, with special attention to gaps around equipment that appear small enough to overlook.
