Lemon Damsel

The lemon damsel, Pomacentrus moluccensis, is a yellow reef fish that spends much of its time around shelter. Its bright appearance and small purchase size should be considered alongside the territorial behaviour that can become more pronounced as it matures.

Provide crevices and separate retreat areas without eliminating open swimming space. Feed small marine omnivore foods, including both meaty and algae-based preparations, in manageable portions. Observe feeding throughout the community so that less assertive fish still receive their share.

Similar damsels and other small residents may be challenged near its territory. A group of young fish may not remain peaceful as adults. Plan shelter, introductions and a means of separation before combining several individuals, especially in an aquarium already containing timid bottom-dwelling or slow-feeding species.
