The Indian mud moray, Gymnothorax tile, is a coastal eel requiring brackish or marine conditions for long-term care. It should not be treated as a permanent freshwater fish. Adults can reach about 60 cm, so their full body length matters when planning shelter and floor space.

Provide soft sand, secure caves or suitable tubes, effective filtration and a thoroughly sealed cover. Confirm the shop's holding salinity and plan any transition carefully. Offer varied meaty foods near shelter with a long feeding tool; some individuals initially require suitable live prey before accepting frozen foods.

This is a powerful fish-eating predator. A dedicated setup avoids the substantial risk to ordinary community fish. Locate the eel before maintenance, keep hands clear of its mouth and inspect feeding directly, particularly around dusk when it becomes more active.
